Legendary Automobiles: The ‘Alpha Romeo B.A.T. Concept Cars’ Of 1953-55

Perhaps the most incredible thing that could be said about the B.A.T. series is that the fantastical design is actually functional, with all three examples exhibiting drag coefficient figures that would still land them in the top ten most aerodynamic cars on sale today. Their extreme forms are, in fact, functional.

Predictably, the B.A.T. concepts made a huge splash on the international motor show circuit, leading to Scaglione’s two greatest hits in terms of production figures – the NSU Sport Prinz and Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint. Unfortunately, the B.A.T. concepts would also mark an inflection point for Bertone and Scaglione’s working relationship.

Scaglione’s daughter Giovanna describes it, “Bertone was a little bothered when it happened that in a magazine article they wrote about Franco Scaglione and not Bertone… For example, in an article speaking of one of his works [Scaglione’s] name was mentioned three times and the name of Bertone was mentioned only once…” Though Giovanna does not attribute her father’s sudden departure from the firm to this incident alone, it was clear that Scaglione wanted to strike out on his own, so that year, he handed over the title of chief stylist to Giorgetto Giugiaro and left Bertone for good.

Future Housing: Living ‘Off-Grid Modular’ In Southwest Australia

“I think it strikes a chord with people, living off the grid and being minimalist. I could build a McMansion…but it wouldn’t be interesting.”

Each project is designed specifically for your spatial requirements, budget and site. Design and finish options are limitless, but every design is the result of genuine collaboration with you. We operate from our modular construction hub in Brooklyn, Victoria which includes an impressive factory used for manufacturing the modules. The rapid off-site modular construction forces a high level of documentation – which in turn means a higher degree of design resolution and greater control of the cost for you. The factory environment ensures the risk of weather and site delays are eliminated, allowing for a fixed timeline for design, construction and delivery. It also ensures a consistent level of quality.

We’re one of Australia’s leading off-site construction companies and with Modscape, you will get:

  • Innovative architecture that uses quality materials at a fixed price
  • A tightly controlled construction process that still allows for high levels of customisation
  • A modern, sustainable modular building that minimises environmental impact, but doesn’t compromise on design or quality
  • A project that is brought to life by the one team
  • An enjoyable and stress-free building process.

Travel: Ten Underrated African Countries (Video)

Filmed and Produced by: Displore

Africa is the second largest continent in the world in terms of both land area and population, only after the Asian continent. Despite the ignorant thought that Africa is one country, Africa is home to 54 sovereign countries, and might be the world´s most diverse continent with very different and unique culture. The diversity makes Africa one of the world´s most interesting travel destination with several countries to choose from. The first thing most people will think of when planning a trip to Africa is the amazing wildlife the continent has to offer. With over 1100 different types of mammals most choose countries with the “big five animals “, national parks and the most popular countries but Africa has so much more to offer than just the most popular countries.

Poetry: ‘Song Of The Open Road’ By Walt Whitman

Read by Dave Luukkonen and Music by Tony Anderson

Walt Whitman is America’s world poet – a latter-day successor to Homer, Virgil, Dante, and Shakespeare, whose verse collection ‘Leaves of Grass’ marked a new era in the history of American literature.

Within Leaves of Grass, Whitman’s ‘Song of the Open Road’ engages with important themes of freedom, the self and nature. The poem begins with the speaker setting out on a long brown path “Afoot and light-hearted,” for he is done with the routines, customs, and safe behaviours of his previous life, “done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms.”

Here, Whitman renounces a life devoted to the conventional pursuit of material success and embarks on the open road, the world before him. –

New Walking Tour Videos: ‘Lisbon, Portugal’ (2020)

We recorded this 4k ultra hd video during our trip to Lisbon, Portugal on July 2020. Located on the westernmost front of Continental Europe, Lisbon is the capital and the largest city of Portugal. It is also one of the oldest cities in the world, and the second-oldest European capital city (after Athens). In 1755 a massive earthquake, and subsequent tidal wave and fire, killed 40,000 and completely destroyed much of the Lisbon lower central districts. Our guided walking tour is about 4.66 miles (7.5 km) long, starts at Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio) and covers most attractions and historic sites of Lisbon.
