Future Of Travel: AirPortr.com Checks Bags At Your Home, You Pick Them Up At The Airport

From a Skift.com online article:

Airportr shippingHere’s how Airport’s service works: A passenger checks in online. The company collects the bags from their doorstep after confirming the person’s identity. The driver puts the bag in a coded, tamperproof, and trackable security bag, the company said. The driver delivers the luggage to the airport, where they check in the bag.

AirPortr has handled 113,251 bag shipments. Two years ago, the startup landed British Airways as a customer. It also works with Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, and other carriers. This year, EasyJet began offering the AirPortr service at London’s Luton airport.

“Business is seeing really good year-over-year growth,” said founder and CEO Randel Darby. “This year we expect airline revenues to double. We plan to scale the product to become a network proposition with our airline partners.”

AirPortr has 15 workers at its London headquarters. It has about 30 others handling operations, customer support, and logistics.

Future Of Housing: Trim Studios 100-Sq. Foot Home Is “Hideaway Of Dreams”

From a Dwell.com online article:

Trim Studio 100 sq foot house kitchenFor Trim Studio, the design requirements were simple and straightforward: a living area, kitchen, wood-burning stove, bathroom, bedroom, patio, log storage, and an outdoor shower. The challenge, however, came with the square footage restrictions: the home could be no larger than 100 square feet, and no taller than 16 feet high.

Trim Studio 100 sq foot house bedroomKris and Ali visited the site and, as Rodrigo Munguia, principal of Trim Studio, tells it, “immediately fell in love with the property.” Dubbing the site and house Ohana (meaning family in Hawaiian), the couple knew they wanted a cabin that spoke to the wooded area and took advantage of the property’s magnificent views. Particularly exciting for Munguia was the fact that they also wanted to have their wedding on the property, and planned to start their lives together at Ohana as a married couple.

To take advantage of the astounding views that extend beyond the Strait of Georgia to the cityscape of downtown Vancouver, Trim Studio oriented the home so that it faces northeast. Ohana, or Galiano 100, is outfitted with large, oversized windows and floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors so that the space feels larger than its 100-square-foot footprint.

Boomers Health: Fasting Before Blood Tests For Cholesterol Is Not Necessary Study Finds

From a Harvard Heart Health online article:

Non Fasting Blood Testing for ChloresterolFor the study, nearly 8,300 people at risk for heart disease had fasting and nonfasting lipid profile tests done at least four weeks apart. (Fasting means they had nothing to eat or drink except water for at least eight hours before the test.) The differences in their total, LDL, and HDL cholesterol values were negligible. Triglyceride levels were modestly higher in the nonfasting samples.

Don’t want to skip breakfast before your cholesterol test? You probably don’t need to. A study published online May 28 by JAMA Internal Medicine adds to the evidence that fasting isn’t necessary before this common blood test, often referred to as a lipid profile.

Rock Nostalgia: Led Zeppelin’s Final Studio Album “In Through The Out Door” Celebrates 40th Anniversary (1979)

From a Rolling Stone online article:

In Through The Out Door Led Zeppelin 1979 tracksThe album was rumored to be originally titled Look, but the title was changed to In Through the Out Door as a nod to the band overcoming their struggles. (“That’s the hardest way to get back in,” Page said). Hipgnosis — the English design company co-owned by Aubrey Powell and Storm Thorgerson — designed six different album sleeves, each depicting sepia-toned scenes in a New Orleans–inspired bar. Copies were famously packaged in brown paper bags, concealing which cover was purchased. Even with this odd gimmick, the record sold an astounding 2 million copies in the first 10 days of its release. With record sales at a dangerous low, the album’s success helped revive an ailing industry.

Instead of embarking on a tour, the band decided to return to the stage with two outdoor shows at England’s Knebworth Festival on August 4th and 11th, 1979 — their first time playing on U.K. soil in four years. In the video above, they tear through “In the Evening” with Bonham taking the lead, pounding the drums during an intense strobe-light display. “So don’t you let her get under your skin,” Plant sings. “It’s only bad luck and trouble/From the day that you begin.”

Paddling Tranquility Short Film Directed by Toby Harriman (2019)

Back in 2017, my buddy Kyle and I flew out to Inner Lake George, just next to Knik Glacier. We found an old canoe and Kyle paddled out through a freezing slushy layer of broken ice. It was incredible, beyond incredible. Check out that shot here to understand what I’m talking about. Ever since then, I have always wanted to keep exploring remote glacier areas and keep creating abstract, adventurous aerials and stories.

Especially considering places and scenes like these won’t be around much longer the ways things are going. So after that first trip, I ended up getting a couple of inflatable paddleboards, thanks to my friends at Body Glove and had high hopes of flying them out to some cool places in the near future. But after a year of non-stop travel and putting things off, I finally got my ideas together, got my buddy Jussi onboard and we set off on some of the most epic adventures I have been a part of to date.

Urban Agriculture: Agripolis Will Open World’s Largest Rooftop Farm In Paris In 2020

From a Curbed.com online article:

Agripolis Urban FarmNext year, French company Agripolis is opening a 150,000-square-foot urban farm in Paris, where, according to The Guardian, it will grow more than 2,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables every day during high season. The farm is located in the 15th arrondissement, where it will occupy the rooftop of a sprawling entertainment complex that’s currently undergoing renovations.

The farm will be home to more than 30 different species of plants that will grow vertically with aeroponic farming, a method that uses nutrient-filled mist to nourish the produce. Local residents will be able to secure plots of land, effectively turning the garden into a community space. “Our vision is a city in which flat roofs and abandoned surfaces are covered with these new growing systems,” Pascal Hardy, head of Agripolis told The Guardian.
