Tours: The University Of Cambridge In England

University of Cambridge, English autonomous institution of higher learning at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, on the River Cam 50 miles (80 km) north of London.

The start of the university is generally taken as 1209, when scholars from Oxford migrated to Cambridge to escape Oxford’s riots of “town and gown” (townspeople versus scholars). To avert possible troubles, the authorities in Cambridge allowed only scholars under the supervision of a master to remain in the town. It was partly to provide an orderly place of residence that (in emulation of Oxford) the first college, Peterhouse, was founded in 1284 by Hugo de Balsham, bishop of Ely. Over the next three centuries another 15 colleges were founded, and in 1318 Cambridge received formal recognition as a studium generale from Pope John XXII.

Museum Tour: ‘Van Gogh And The Olive Groves’ (4K)

‘Van Gogh and the Olive Groves’ (11 March 2022 – 12 June 2022).

Van Gogh made fifteen paintings of olive groves, constantly experimenting with various approaches. Fascinated by the gnarly shapes of the olive trees and their ever-changing colours, he painted them over and over. He painted at different times of the day and used colours inspired by the season. Vincent himself considered his paintings of olive trees to number amongst the best he had made in the South of France.

This exhibition reunites Van Gogh’s paintings of olive groves and exhibits them together for the first time, thanks to unique loans from museums in Europe and the United States.

Mid Century Modern: 1965 Linnell House, Los Angeles

The Linnell Residence by Charles Wong, 1965. Ladera Heights is home to some unique modernists homes in Los Angeles and this Charles Wong home is no exception. Charles Wong immigrated from China in the 1930’s and graduated from USC’s School of Architecture in 1951 and was one of a handful of Asian American Modernist Architects that contributed to the Modernists landscape of the 60’s.

The owners Adrian and Jason (One who works with the Los Angeles Conservancy)  lovingly  restored the home for 7 months once moved in after their long 5 month escrow. The story on how they discovered the full set of plans for the home is something to be heard alongside what their vision was for the home when they purchased it. The home couldn’t have fallen into better hands as Adrian and Jason are the best examples of who should end up in these homes, someone who is going to Preserve, Restore and maintain the rich history that we have here in Los Angeles and it’s Architecture.

Tours: Göreme Open Air Museum In Cappadocia (4K)

The Göreme Open Air Museum is the crown jewel of Cappadocia’s rich history. This small area contains the best churches in Cappadocia and several monastic complexes. For this reason, the Göreme Open Air Museum is Cappadocia’s most popular tourist destination. This article explains the broader geographical, social, and historical context of the Göreme Open Air Museum.

In 1985, the Göreme Open Air Museum was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site to conserve and properly display Cappadocia’s best cave churches. To facilitate thousands of tourists each day, the Turkish government built roads, parking lots, and shops along with the Open Air Museum. These measures were helpful and necessary, but they created a spotlight effect—visitors only notice the sites within the Open Air Museum, and thus overlook all the nearby churches. The churches of the Göreme Open Air Museum must be understood within the broader context of the entire valley.

New Architecture Tours: ‘Villa LP’ In Hanoi, Vietnam

Concrete, curtain creepers and light wells define this beautiful villa that is designed to house three generations.

We were set to design a house for a three-generation family with different lifestyles between the family members. While the grandparents are used to the traditional Vietnamese lifestyle, the married couple and their children are familiar with the modern way of living in foreign countries. The elders in this family have been living in this area for a long time and have a strong connection with the neighbors and interact with their acquaintances daily while their children and grandchildren only travel to Vietnam a few times per year so big spaces to accommodate a large family gathering as well as multiple social events is a must.
