Food & Travel: An Epic Tour Of Remote Thailand

National Geographic (November 7, 2024): Mark Wiens travels to a Karen village in the remote mountains of Mae Hong Son Province, in Northern Thailand, to reunite with his friend Mook. Mark’s challenge is to fish and forage for ingredients to cook a traditional Karen meal.

This will serve as the culminating flavor feast for a wrist tying ceremony, a Karen tradition to mark the planting and harvesting cycle of rice. But first, Mark and Mook must trek through the jungle to collect things like bitter melon leaves and broken bones pods. Once the sun goes down, they will join Mook’s brothers on a nighttime fishing expedition which doesn’t quite go as planned.

Food & Travel Tour: Milka Restaurant In Slovenia

MICHELIN Guide (December 13, 2023) – Situated near the Austrian and Italian borders, Milka boasts a superb location overlooking a crystal-clear lake surrounded by mountains in Slovenia.

The restaurant offers a fine gastronomic synthesis of its region and neighbours, all skillfully interpreted and prepared by chef David Žefran, who makes full use of local ingredients. The cuisine served at Milka is revolutionary: David Žefran has had a major influence here, creating tempting dishes in a delightful “boutique experience hotel” which occupies a restored building transformed into a charming and welcoming space where everything has been carefully designed down to the tiniest detail.

Guests eat well (very well!) at Milka, where seasonal produce is of the utmost importance and where much of the focus is on vegetables and freshwater fish. Ouzoud Falls is the collective name for several waterfalls that empty into the El-Abid River’s gorge. This popular tourism destination is located near the Middle Atlas village of Tanaghmeilt, in the province of Azilal, 150 km northeast of Marrakech, Morocco. ‘Ouzoud’ means “the act of grinding grain” in Berber.

Taiwanese Street Food – 台灣街頭美食 / Night Market, New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Taiwan probably has the best night market scene in the world and some of the most exciting street food in Asia. With little space at home to cook, the Taiwanese prefer to head out almost every night to the heaving markets for the cheap snacks – or xiaochi – that are found across the island – on corners, in clusters of food-devoted streets or at one of over 100 night markets. Those with no language skills simply stand in front of the stall, point to what they want and use their digits to say how many. Stallholders then write the price down, with dishes generally costing between 60p and £1.20. (From The Guardian)
