Toronto Art: ‘Dominic Besner’ – Galerie LeRoyer

Galerie LeRoyer (June 3, 2023) – A corpus called “Migratory Series”. It is an ode to manifest colours, driven by the hot winds of June and the full moon of strawberries. Coming from elsewhere, like the tropical butterfly, their glass hooves fuel the playfulness of our fantasies.

DOMINIC BESNER

“Migratory Series”

JUNE 2023

Dominic Besner’s creative work is based on a mixed technique on canvas. He has a preference for oil sticks and their rich palette of colours as well as acrylic paint, structural mortar, china marker and aerosol paint. In addition to these materials, he uses a technique of application by the fingers and scraping of the canvas.

Architectural Tours: An 8′ Wide House In Toronto

This ultra-narrow house looks modern on the outside, but inside it’s a cozy and welcoming home with multiple levels designed around a meandering set of stairs that run up the center of the home. With lots of wood, exposed copper pipes, and small dimensions, the owner often describes the house as feeling like a boat or a treehouse.

While it might seem like the house was recently built as an in-fill house or accessory dwelling unit, there has actually been a narrow single-story structure on the property since at least 1880. It wasn’t until 1980 – a full century later – that the then-owner, an architect, applied to the committee of adjustments to build the house as it is today.

With such a long and narrow floorplan, an important feature of the house is the full glass walls and skylights at both ends of the house, which lets natural light flow into each room and prevents the house from feeling dark and confined.

Cities: The Skyscraper Boom In Toronto, Canada

Canada’s biggest city is experiencing a skyscraper boom. Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It’s a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Toronto also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400-acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and zoo.

Top Urban Architecture: Ancerl Studio In Toronto – Two Homes “Appear” As One On A Very Tight Lot

From a Dezeen.com online article (March 28, 2020):

Ancerl Studio Toronto Sorauren 116 - 118 Interior“The detached homes have been conceptualised to visually appear as one single volume defined by its traditional triangular architecture,” said the studio. “Only from up close will the observer notice a crisp breakpoint between the properties.”

Canadian firm Ancerl Studio has designed a pair of houses in Toronto to make them look like a single building.

Both properties include three bedrooms. In Sorauren 116, the master suite occupies the entire top floor of the house. A balcony opens from the bedroom towards the backyard, and the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a spacious walk-through closet.

The two houses are located on very tight lots on Sorauren Street in the city’s Parkdale neighbourhood, as is typical in Toronto’s residential neighbourhoods.
