Top RV Campsites: Jumbo Rocks Campground At Joshua Tree National Park Features Oversized Volcanic Boulders

From Fodor’s online:

Jumbo Rocks CampgroundThe accurately named Jumbo Rocks Campground is woven among the stacked and strewn oversized volcanic boulders unique to Joshua Tree National Park. Several hiking trails begin at Jumbo Rocks, a 126-campsite facility with vault toilets. During Joshua Tree’s peak season, October through May, hikers and rock-scramblers who reserve the campground well in advance are rewarded with views of the boulders whose colors shift throughout the day, from the morning sunrise to the fire’s glow. In the hot, dry summers, Jumbo Rocks is first-come, first-served.

Top Road Trips: St. Martins, New Brunswick Is Home To The World’s Highest Tides

From a National Geographic online article:

New Brunswick CanadaOn the mainland, drive east to St. Martins, gateway to The Fundy Trail, a 6,323-acre coastal wilderness park. Wind along coastal cliffs on the 19-mile Fundy Trail Parkway to watch the tides and access paths to waterfalls, beaches, and a suspension bridge.

In St. Martins, the world’s highest tides create the rare opportunity to explore sea caves on foot and on the water. Check the tide chart to plan a low-tide walk out to the caves, allowing plenty of time to return to shore before the water rises. At high tide, float into the caves on a Red Rock Adventure sea kayaking trip.

Watch a six-hour timelapse of the rising tide that lifts fishing boats 50 up from the tidal bottom:

Top Hikes In Oregon: The 7-Mile Loop Trail To Ramona Falls Features Stunning Views Of Mount Hood

From a Willamette Week online article:

Ramona Falls Trail View of Mount HoodIt’s not quite Multnomah Falls in terms of Disneyland wow factor, but it’s up there. Bear in mind that some things are justifiably popular—and Ramona Falls is just such a place. It is one of those natural wonders that must be seen in person. Photos, good as they may be, do the sprawling cascade little justice. Accordingly, the approximately 7-mile loop hike that visits it is a rite of passage for any and all Oregon hikers—including dirt-caked and determined adventurers trudging their way along the Pacific Crest Trail, which joins a portion of this route.

Ramona Falls Oregon Hiking Map

You’ll have to ford the Sandy River or cross on downed logs (a bridge was washed out several years ago), so exercise caution. But the view of Mount Hood from that vantage point is a stunner, so that’s a plus. In addition, the walk beside Ramona Creek looks and feels more like a forested fantasyland than a hiking trail—and if ever there was a place to enjoy a picnic, it is in the large, shaded amphitheater surrounding the cooling mist of the falls.

Future Of Travel: AirPortr.com Checks Bags At Your Home, You Pick Them Up At The Airport

From a Skift.com online article:

Airportr shippingHere’s how Airport’s service works: A passenger checks in online. The company collects the bags from their doorstep after confirming the person’s identity. The driver puts the bag in a coded, tamperproof, and trackable security bag, the company said. The driver delivers the luggage to the airport, where they check in the bag.

AirPortr has handled 113,251 bag shipments. Two years ago, the startup landed British Airways as a customer. It also works with Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, and other carriers. This year, EasyJet began offering the AirPortr service at London’s Luton airport.

“Business is seeing really good year-over-year growth,” said founder and CEO Randel Darby. “This year we expect airline revenues to double. We plan to scale the product to become a network proposition with our airline partners.”

AirPortr has 15 workers at its London headquarters. It has about 30 others handling operations, customer support, and logistics.

Back in 2017, my buddy Kyle and I flew out to Inner Lake George, just next to Knik Glacier. We found an old canoe and Kyle paddled out through a freezing slushy layer of broken ice. It was incredible, beyond incredible. Check out that shot here to understand what I’m talking about. Ever since then, I have always wanted to keep exploring remote glacier areas and keep creating abstract, adventurous aerials and stories.

Especially considering places and scenes like these won’t be around much longer the ways things are going. So after that first trip, I ended up getting a couple of inflatable paddleboards, thanks to my friends at Body Glove and had high hopes of flying them out to some cool places in the near future. But after a year of non-stop travel and putting things off, I finally got my ideas together, got my buddy Jussi onboard and we set off on some of the most epic adventures I have been a part of to date.

Future Of Travel Trailers: Happier Camper HC1 Is Pure Lightweight, Vintage Modular Functionality

From a Curbed.com online article:

Happier Camper HC1 2019The fiberglass trailer is cute-as-a-button with a large rear hatch, wide entry door, and classic fender design. Available in a plethora of colors (like Pacific blue, Bishop red, Topanga turquoise, and Mojave sage), the two-tone paint job only adds to the adorableness of the camper, as does a port window on the door. It’s a trailer that makes people stop and do a double take, and a welcome break from the tired swoopy graphics found on most RVs.

The HC1 is easy to tow and weighs only 1,100 pounds dry, meaning it can be towed by most vehicles (but always check your own vehicle’s tow weight). Mounted leveling jacks make setting up camp easy, and our family of two adults and two kids spent more than a few minutes exploring the trailer, ohhing and ahhing over the various components.

Top Travel Destinations: Portland, ME Is A “Food-Lover’s Paradise” And Cultural Experience

From a Wall Street Journal online article by Margot Dougherty:

Peaks Island by Greta Rybus for the Wall Street Journal 2019
Peaks Island
GRETA RYBUS FOR THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

JAMES BEARD AWARD-WINNING RESTAURANTS   line cobblestone streets, breweries turn out serious suds and the lobster roll is in a constant state of upscale reinvention. Portland, Maine, is a food-lover’s fantasyland, but the culture goes well beyond the plate. Works by Renoir, Homer and Picasso hang at the Portland Museum of Art, and Mother Nature puts on an all-seasons show. Set on the water—the Casco Bay islands make for picturesque day trips—the former capital of the state is rife with trails winding through its parks and promenades. Visitors are prone to mid-hike epiphanies: Why not live here? Soon after novelist Richard Russo and his wife, Barbara, moved to town, daughters Kate and Emily followed. Emily opened PRINT, a bookstore in artsy Munjoy Hill. “Our roots in Portland are very deep,” said Mr. Russo, whose new book, “Chances Are…” was written there. “I can’t think what would get us out of here now.”

Future Of Hotels: Moxy NYC Chelsea Features “Stripped-Back” Chic Design, “Zany Bars” & Space Saving Affordability

From a Dezeen.com online review:

Moxy NYC Chelsea Hotel Full ExteriorGuests are able to check themselves in at the Yabu Pushelberg-designed reception behind the flower store – forming part of the Moxy’s stripped-back approach to hospitality. Desks hang down from the ceiling while neon signs flash slogans related to flowers.

As with the Moxy Times Square, the firm’s design uses custom furnishings to make the most of the limited space. Each room features built-in wooden beds, which range from king, queen, double and bunk beds depending on the layout.

Chairs and tables can be folded away and hung from wooden wall pegs, which are also used to hang clothes in lieu of cabinets. Additional storage drawers are slotted underneath the beds.

Yabu Pushelberg and Rockwell Group have created a mix of floral and zany bars, restaurants, workspaces, and space-saving bedrooms inside this New York hotel.

Developed by Lightstone, the 349-room hotel is the latest outpost of Moxy – a subsidiary of hospitality company Marriott that aims to be affordable without compromising on style.

The pass road over the Gotthard can only be described as breathtaking. The route from the canton of Uri to Ticino leads through the wild Schöllenen Gorge with its fabled Devil’s Bridge up to the top of the pass at 2,107 metres above sea level and over the cobblestoned Tremola Road with its 24 spine-tingling switchbacks down into Ticino.
