Top New Travel Videos: “Oregon’s Secret Coast”

Filmed and Edited by: Shawn Reeder

Oregon’s Coast is known throughout the world for its majestic rocky coastline, secluded beaches, forested sea stacks and magical vibe. Yet tucked away in the far southern reaches lies a particularly beautiful almost hidden gem, Oregon’s Secret Coast. A little over 2 years ago I made my first trip and instantly fell in love. It kind of reminds me of a mix between Big Sur and New Zealand, two of my favorite meetings of land and ocean.

Oregon's Secret Coast Timelapse Short Film by Shawn Reeder January 10 2020

That trip started a love affair that has had me return 5 times in the last two years, each time getting to know the magic of this land better while also getting to know myself better. There’s something about time by the ocean that is very introspective for me, and always has gems of insight that I discover like hidden treasures.

Camper Trailers: Easy Caravaning’s “TakeOff” Opens In 30 Seconds

From a New Atlas online article:

The TakeOff interior houses two rows of furniture running down the sides of a center aisle. The front dinette includes benches on either side of an adjustable table, converting to an 63 x 81-in (160 x 205-cm) oversized queen bed at night. The versatile, multi-position lounge can be set up in several configurations, including an optional eight-seat dinette and a shortened bed with rear dining nook.

Easy Caravaning X10T 2020

Pop-up tent campers are an age-old way of enjoying a light, aerodynamic tow and roomy base camp. They’re not always as quick or easy to set up as the term “pop-up” suggests, however. The new TakeOff from Dutch startup Easy Caravanning follows through on the pop-up trailer’s implied promise of quickness. A sort of pop-up camper van roof on wheels, the TakeOff rides low and light and sets up in about half a minute, making it perfect for a quick lunch break on the way to camp, as well as a cozy extended camping holiday.

New Travel Videos: “Palawan”, Philippines By Martien Janssen (2020)

Palawan, Philippines, one of word’s most beautiful islands seen from sky. This was the first trip with my drone, still trying to get the hang of it, but man what a fabulous place to fly! I traveled from the very north to the very south, this movie takes you along the trip.

Palawan Philippines Aerial Video January 2020 by Martien Janssen.JPG

– Coron island is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever, hiding 7 lakes and surrounded by countless gorgeous lagoons. Seeing from the sky is just sick.
– El Nido must be one of the best places on the planet for boat tours and island hopping. So many great places to visit, such gorgeous scenery. Book your own tour to avoid the big crowds! Leave eary as well. If you can afford it of want to splash, there’s some crazy cool accommodation on the islands.
– Long Beach at San Vicente is the country’s longest beach at 14km. Soft white sand, no one on it, except a rediculous amount of sandflies that come alive at sunset.
– Port Barton is wonderful laid back little fishing town that’s great to escape the crowds and do some quiet island hopping tours.
– Honda Bay is famous for island hopping as well, but tourism and they way they handle tourism just seemed to ruin it all. Starfish island for example, has no more starfish.
– South Palawan is really off the beaten track, largely due to safety reasons. Still not sure if I’m brave or stupid, but I went anyway and absolutely loved staying at Bancalan island, which receives averagely 5 visitors a year. There were no facilities for tourists at all, so I ended up renting a room at a family’s house, who cooked for me and my buddy as well. We showered at the waterpump like the locals and slowly were able to make more contact with the shy locals. Spend a few days going out on fishing & island hopping trips, which was incredible and so opposite of El Nido, where there are so many boats, you can barely swim.

Travel & Nature Videos: “Rogue River”, Oregon (Conservation Alliance)

The Conservation Alliance 30 Years LogoOn October 2, 2018 – the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act – a bill to protect wild rivers and lands in Oregon moved one step closer to the finish line. The Oregon Wildlands Act (S.1548) passed through the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources suggesting it is ready for the spotlight – approval from the full Senate and House and a signature by the President.

Senators Wyden and Merkely’s Oregon Wildlands Act brings together longstanding efforts to protect outstanding rivers and wild landscapes in Oregon. If passed, the bill would protect 90,000 acres of Wilderness in the Devil’s Staircase and Wild Rogue areas, add 256 miles of Oregon rivers to the Wild & Scenic system, safeguard 128,000 acres of the Rogue and Molalla Rivers as Recreation Areas and withdraw an important section of the Chetco River from new mining claims.

Fifty years ago the Lower Rogue River was one of the original eight rivers designated under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. The Oregon Wildlands Act would grant nearly 100 miles of tributaries of the Lower Rogue River with the same protections. And, protecting the Rogue, it’s tributaries and it’s surrounding wild landscapes is good for businessAccording to a 2009 economic report, river-based recreation on and near the Wild & Scenic Rogue River accounted for nearly $30 million in economic output and 445 full and part time jobs.
