Walks: Old Fisherman’s Wharf & Cannery Row In Monterey, California
Monterey is a city located in Monterey County on the southern edge of Monterey Bay on California’s central coast. The Cannery Row, once a center of sardine canning factories, was immortalized by novelist John Steinbeck through his well-known novel Cannery Row.
Cannery Row is now a tourist attraction with shops, restaurants and hotels, several of which are located in former cannery buildings, and a few historic attractions. The Monterey Bay Aquarium on Cannery Row is one of the largest aquariums in North America, and several marine science laboratories, including Hopkins Marine Station are located in the area.
The Aquarium revitalized the neighborhood and it is now the number one tourist destination on the Monterey Peninsula. Monterey’s historic Fisherman’s Wharf was constructed in 1845, reconstructed in 1870 and is now a commercial shopping and restaurant district with several whale watching entities operating at the end of its pier. Used as an active wholesale fish market into the 1960s, the wharf eventually became a tourist attraction as commercial fishing tapered off in the area.

Lungern is a municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. It encompasses Lake Lungern and, besides the village of Lungern, the settlements of Bürglen, Kaiserstuhl and Obsee.
Lake Lungern is a natural lake in Obwalden, Switzerland which is named after the town Lungern on its shore. The lake is drained by the Sarner Aa river, which flows through the Sarnersee and into Lake Lucerne. The lake was originally much larger, and covered a large part of the valley it is situated in.

London Walks: Tottenham Court Road & Fitzrovia
Tottenham Court Road is a major road in Central London, almost entirely within the London Borough of Camden. The road runs from Euston Road in the north to St Giles Circus in the south; Tottenham Court Road tube station lies just beyond the southern end of the road.
Fitzrovia is a diverse residential area where grand 18th- and 19th-century apartment buildings sit side by side with social housing. Handy for the West End theatres, it’s filled with hotels, galleries, and old-school pubs. Charlotte Street is lined with lively bistros and cafes, and the surrounding streets are home to new media, advertising, and architectural companies. The lofty BT Tower is an iconic city landmark.

Gothenburg, a major city in Sweden, is situated off the Göta älv river on the country’s west coast. An important seaport, it’s known for its Dutch-style canals and leafy boulevards like the Avenyn, the city’s main thoroughfare, lined with many cafes and shops. French Views: ‘Castle Of The Counts Of Perche’
The #castle of the counts of #Perche stands on a hill overlooking the #French town of Nogent-le-Rotrou, in the central Eure-et-Loir department. This thousand-year-old fortress, testament to a wealth of local history, is now a museum. Through nearly 400 objects, it takes visitors on a journey through time, from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. FRANCE 24 takes you on a tour.
The castle of Saint-Jean dominates the town and is a fine example of medieval architecture and of the history of Nogent-le-Rotrou. The rectangular keep is 30 metres high and is 60 metres above the Huisne valley. Its construction began in the first years of the 11th century after the first Lord of Nogent, Rotrou I. The end of 12th century and beginning of the 13th saw the construction of the circular enclosure and 7 defensive towers. The castle of Saint-Jean has withstood many sieges in its time, the most violent was probably in 1428 when the Count of Salisbury burnt the keep and destroyed the inside of the building. In 1624, de Sully became the owner and built the attractive Louis XIII pavilion against the north rampart. The interior has been completely renovated since the 1960s and now houses a local history museum with exhibits and documents about country life in Perche, as well as on the history of the town and the castle. It also houses various temporary exhibitions.
