Travel Videos: “Azerbaijan – The Land Of Fire”

Azerbaijan or as it is known as the Land of Fire was kind of an unknown to me as a travel destination and so I decided to travel there and spend a month exploring the country from the hyper-modern capital city of Baku to the peculiar exclave republic of Nakhchivan. The journey begins at a site where they discovered several prehistoric rock carvings not too far from Baku.
The history of Azerbaijan stretched back to prehistoric times which is evidenced by the rock carvings in Gobustan and that’s where our journey begins in the video. From the empty vastness of the land to humans existing throughout prehistoric times, to the discovery of fire that sprawled up all kinds of civilization, and then there was oil and that where the intro ends and our journey in modern-day Azerbaijan begins.
The video will take you through some of the most incredible sights in the hyper-modern city of Baku before making our way out into the mountains in the Azerbaijani Caucasus.

With some of the biggest ground-based telescopes on earth, the observatories of the European Southern Observatory in Chile are at the bleeding edge of astronomical research. These incredibly complex machines, operating synchronized and precisely in the very remote and hostile environments of the Atacama Desert and Andes, enable deep views into the universe.
All the sequences were shot in only 4 nights in total, but on two trips in 2017 and 2019.

Museum Insider: How Composer Steve Reich Reads Sculpture (MoMA/BBC Video)
In this episode of The Way I See It, our radio collaboration with BBC, we’ve captured composer Steve Reich’s audible awe as he sees his friend Richard Serra’s monumental 2015 sculpture Equal for the first time. As Reich puts it, he and Serra are “in tune to the same frequencies,” so their meeting in Manhattan in the 1960s and subsequent friendship was both important and inevitable.
Working in sound and steel respectively, both Reich and Serra rejected traditional compositional structures—one of harmony and the other of form—to give shape to their work. Reich is the recipient of countless awards, including two Grammys, a Pulitzer, and, recently, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. His works are performed in concert halls all over the world, and recently at Glastonbury Festival. I will never understand why so many people go to such an obvious Insta-tourist-trap like Santorini when there are so many amazing alternatives in Greece. Take Amorgos for instance. It’s the easternmost island in Greece’s Cyclades island group. With a land area of just 121 square kilometers, the island has a population of nearly 2000 people. It’s incredibly beautiful and no mass tourism is spoiling the fun so far.
