Top Hikes: ‘Rae Lakes Loop’ – Kings Canyon National Park, California (Video)

Mile for mile – and perhaps inch for inch – the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon National Park contains some of the most stunning and celebrated scenery in a mountain range world-famous for stunning and celebrated scenery. The route consists of three separate but connected trails that travel through glacially-carved canyons, a high country basin containing a chain of sapphire blue lakes set against towering granitic crags, and an alpine pass that just scrapes 12,000 feet. Throughout the route, you will observe nearly every major biotic zone (life zones characterized by specific species) in the Sierra, prime examples of glacial erosion, waterfalls, idyllic valleys, tranquil meadows, and myriad sublime scenes ranging from the intimate to the jaw-droppingly grand.

The Most Exclusive Lodge In Lapland

Having hunted for the right place to accommodate the discerning guests of our Luxury Action travel company, I eventually realized the the right property did not exists in the right location. That’s when I decided the only option was to build our very own log chalet. Traditionally, we have managed or rented private chalets in various locations around Lapland, then refurnished them to meet the individual standards of our guests.

As fun and instructive this concept has been, implementing interior design on a one-by-one basis is costly and time consuming. In addition, regardless of our efforts to upgrade the existing chalets in Lapland, although of excellent quality, tend to have very small rooms and only a few properties have en-suite bedrooms with shower and toilet. I felt it was time for a revolutionary change to provide exclusive accommodation in the Arctic that meets the needs of our experiential guests.

Full-Time Camper Travel: ‘White Sands National Park, New Mexico’ (Video)

In this episode of the “Southern Road Trip” series, I visit White Sands National Park in New Mexico. My camp is a free campsite just outside of Alamogordo, NM (on BLM land). Inside the park I hike the 5 mile Alkali Flat Loop which is anything but flat. The cloud formations cast beautiful shadows on the dunes which made for a stunning day in the park. Approximately 12,000 years ago, the land within the Tularosa Basin featured large lakes, streams, grasslands, and Ice Age mammals. As the climate warmed, rain and snowmelt dissolved gypsum from the surrounding mountains and carried it into the basin. I have embarked on a road trip from Southern California to Florida (then back west) with lots of stops for adventure along the way. From the Southwest to the Southeast the plan is to seek warmer climates during the winter while living full time in my truck camper. This trip will be full of firsts as it is all new territory for me along my entire route. Come along for the ride!

Extreme Views: Skydivers Fly Down ‘The Streif’ In Kitzbuhel, Austria (Video)

Red Bull Skydive Team flies over the world’s most difficult downhill ski slope: The Streif in Kitzbuhel, Austria!

Speeding over the legendary downhill course of the Streif, the Red Bull Skydive Team, of Max Manow, Felix Seifert, Marco Fürst and Marco Waltenspiel, executed a world first flight over the revered track. They all knew it from watching the ski race as children and having now experienced its steepness and dramatic turns from above, their respect for the ski pros that ride it has grown exponentially. “The fact that we were able to fly past the Mausefalle and Hausbergkante with the Wingsuit shows how steep it must be there,” says Marco Fürst enthusiastically after the flight. “That must be just brutal to ski down. It’s not the hardest race in the world for nothing!”
