1. Democrats in the U.S. Senate this week will try to advance legislation setting new national election standards, seeking to counter voting-rights rollbacks that Republican legislatures are pursuing across the country.

2. Nine children and a young father were killed when a van and other vehicles slammed together on a rain-drenched Alabama highway during Tropical Storm Claudette.

3. A bipartisan infrastructure plan costing a little over $1 trillion has been gaining support in the U.S. Senate, but disputes continued over how it should be funded.

4. Western officials warned Tehran that negotiations to revive its nuclear deal could not continue indefinitely, after the sides announced a break following the election of a new hardline president in Iran.

5. Ethiopians voted in national and regional elections that the country’s prime minister has billed as proof of his commitment to democracy after decades of repressive rule in Africa’s second-most populous nation.

Aerial View: Canyonlands National Park, Utah (4K)

Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah is known for its dramatic desert landscape carved by the Colorado River. Island in the Sky is a huge, flat-topped mesa with panoramic overlooks. Other notable areas include the towering rock pinnacles known as the Needles, the remote canyons of the Maze and the Native American rock paintings in Horseshoe Canyon. Whitewater rapids flow through Cataract Canyon.

Lively Monastiraki is known for iconic landmarks including the ruins of Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora and the rebuilt Stoa of Attalos, with a museum exhibiting Athenian artifacts. Monastiraki Flea Market is a jumble of shops selling artisanal soaps, handmade sandals and souvenir T-shirts. The surrounding streets are crammed with traditional tavernas and restaurants, many with Acropolis views. 

Athens is the capital of Greece. It was also at the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire. The city is still dominated by 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple. The Acropolis Museum, along with the National Archaeological Museum, preserves sculptures, vases, jewelry and more from Ancient Greece. 

California Walk: Treasure Island Park, Laguna Beach

Treasure Island Park is located in front of Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, California. The park has a walk path that shows beautifully maintained landscape and offers incredible scenic views of the beach and the Pacific coastline.

Cotswolds Walks: Shipton -Under-Wychwood (Video)

Shipton-under-Wychwood is an English village and civil parish in the Evenlode valley about 4 miles north of Burford, Oxfordshire. The village is one of three named after the ancient forest of Wychwood.

Views: Glacier National Park Northwest Montana

Glacier National Park is a 1,583-sq.-mi. wilderness area in Montana’s Rocky Mountains, with glacier-carved peaks and valleys running to the Canadian border. It’s crossed by the mountainous Going-to-the-Sun Road. Among more than 700 miles of hiking trails, it has a route to photogenic Hidden Lake. Other activities include backpacking, cycling and camping. Diverse wildlife ranges from mountain goats to grizzly bears. 

Windmill Walks: Zaanse Schans – Netherlands (4K)

Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk, Netherlands. It is best known for its collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses known as the World of Windmills. From 1961 to 1974 old buildings from all over the Zaanstreek were relocated using lowboy trailers to the area. The Zaans Museum, established in 1994 near the first Zaanse Schans windmill, is located south of the neighbourhood. Zaanse Schans and World of Windmills is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Netherlands and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). Nature Views: Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary In Southwest South Dakota

“Sunday Morning” takes us to South Dakota’s Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, near Hot Springs – 11,000 acres in which horses may run free. Videographer: Kevin Kjergaard.

The Black Hills is a small and isolated mountain range rising from the Great Plains of North America in western South Dakota and extending into Wyoming, United States. Black Elk Peak, which rises to 7,244 feet, is the range’s highest summit. The Black Hills encompass the Black Hills National Forest.

Walking Tour: Riccione – Northeastern Italy (4K)

Riccione is a town on Italy’s Adriatic coast. It’s known for its vibrant party scene, water parks and broad beaches. Along the boutique-lined Viale Ceccarini, Papa Giovanni Paolo II Park has shaded paths. Nearby, the early-20th-century Villa Franceschi houses the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea. Artifacts from prehistory to Roman times, including a bison skeleton, are on display at the Museo del Territorio.
