The Independent (February 21, 2024): Studies show that the average British person consumes more than half of their calories from ultra-processed foods. Their consumption can cause extreme health issues and early deaths, putting a massive strain on health services across the world.
An evaluation of global dietary guidelines highlights the need for clearer warnings on what common foods fall under the ‘UPF’ banner. Some of them may surprise you. Today, Decomplicated examines what exactly defines ultra-processed foods, the impact they have on both society and the environment, and what can you do to minimize your consumption of them.
Ashmolean Museum (June 26, 2023): This short film by Carina Hanslik shares an insight into the incredible story behind an ancient ceramic camel.
The object that inspired this animation, a ceramic camel dating back to the Tang Dynasty (AD 618–907), helps us to tell the story of Paul Jacobsthal, a Jewish professor of Archaeology at the University of Marburg in the 1930s, who was forced to leave Germany.
These 30 images are 30 portraits, or 30 chairs, depending on how one chooses to observe them. One can send rational information to the brain to recognize a chair through practical competence, or leave it free to search for an intuitive and open association to discover a face. 30 iconic design chairs are transformed into characters with personality and expressiveness that live, speak and breathe in a parallel universe.
This is the story of Old Bet, the first circus elephant in America, set to a tune sung by her friend, an old farm dog. Their story is portrayed in colorful, handcrafted animation, created frame by frame with clay-on-glass and oil pastel animation.

Google celebrated the life of Luther Vandross with an animated Doodle by Atlanta-based guest artist Sam Bass, on what would have been his 70th birthday.
Vandross was born in 1951 and began performing and writing songs while in high school, singing at the 1969 pilot of Sesame Street with the Apollo Theater’s performing arts group. His first big break came when his song Everybody Rejoice featured in the 1974 Broadway musical The Wiz.
Vandross went on to record 14 studio albums that went either platinum or multi-platinum, and he was nominated for 33 Grammy Awards, of which he won eight. Vandross suffered from diabetes and hypertension and had a severe stroke in 2003 that left him in a wheelchair. He died of a heart attack on 1 July 2005 at the age of 54.
I’m so glad that I have a chance to collaborate with Animography.
It’s very simple and fun animation :). The main idea of shrinking car is inspired by Conceptual artist Gabriel Orozco’s installation work. Check his amazing work here mariangoodman.com/artists/56-gabriel-orozco/

The Riemann hypothesis is the most notorious unsolved problem in all of mathematics. Ever since it was first proposed by Bernhard Riemann in 1859, the conjecture has maintained the status of the “Holy Grail” of mathematics. In fact, the person who solves it will win a $1 million prize from the Clay Institute of Mathematics. So, what is the Riemann hypothesis? Why is it so important? What can it tell us about the chaotic universe of prime numbers? And why is its proof so elusive? Alex Kontorovich, professor of mathematics at Rutgers University, breaks it all down in this comprehensive explainer.
In mathematics, the Riemann hypothesis is a conjecture that the Riemann zeta function has its zeros only at the negative even integers and complex numbers with real part. Many consider it to be the most important unsolved problem in pure mathematics.
Four different jerseys to battle for and an almost indistinguishable array of flags on arms and across chests — but what do they all mean and how does a rider earn the right to wear one?
These loyal ‘servants’ to their leaders will rarely win a race, though will often be seen at the front of the pack. But what exactly do they do and how does this help their team’s challenge for honours?
What is grimpeur, and what are the key characteristics of these flyweight climbers that excel when to road heads high above the treeline?

How to choose an idea among so many others? This seems to be an endless question. This short film by Chico Jofilsan is a parody of that particular moment that seems further from us every single day: the idea of the perfect idea. In a world in which focus no longer stands out dispersion occupies the foreground. And this is the main theme of this film that shows different resources of animation in adapting to the rhythm of our minds. After all, what other art, if not animation, is capable of shaping so many imaginary worlds?
