Travel Film: “Amsterdown” – A Portrait Of Amsterdam During Quarantine By Quentin van den Bossche

Produced/Directed/Shot/Edited by: Quentin van den Bossche

“Amsterdown” a portrait of Amsterdam during the global pandemic. As we explore life in a day of quarantined city, we journey through the usually energetic scene interrupted during an unprecedented time. Punctuated by a gentle bursts of local human activity.

The film was a cathartic exercise for a filmmaker left with very little purpose. Thematically, it’s a visual exploration of space and distance as set by our new way of life. Observing and examining what I could with what I had. Highlighting the contrast found in this emptiness, without comment.

The oral cover of Claire de Lune by the Swingle Singers, which I was attracted to very early on, was a piece that gave the edit a touch of humanity by filling the void left behind by people. We now live in a world that has been set on pause, as opposed to completely switched off – and there’s hope in that. Stay safe and healthy out there.

Hey friends, I have been working on a bunch of new videos during this time in Quarantine due to Covid 19. Today I want to share some of my favorite scenes shot around California over the years. Some memories of incredible moments out in nature in my home state.

I learned how to take photos here and spent most of my early career photographing these spots. California holds a special place in my heart. I have always appreciated the beautiful diversity of landscapes from the Dramatic Yosemite cliffs to the colorful rock formations in Death Valley. I know things are tough right now and I hope some of these scenes brighten up your day a bit!

The locations featured in this short film are Mount Wilson, Lone Pine, Death Valley National Park, Yosemite National Park, La Jolla, Ridgecrest, Mono Lake, San Francisco Coastline, Santa Barbara, Folsom Lake, The White Mountains, Davenport,

New Travel Videos: “Across The Land” In Canada By Scott Portingale (2020)

https://vimeo.com/413120634

Filmed and Edited by: Scott Portingale

Across the Land is a compilation of timelapse sequences shot across Canada in 2017 and is part of a cinematographic installation project called Across the Land. The film explores Canadian landscapes where technological modernity and natural spaces intersect.

When shooting a one shot film across Canada (see other videos) my camera assistant and I drove an average of 6-8 hours a day and would often stop to shoot a few time-lapse shots on the roadside if we saw something of interest. We’d also take advantage of the morning/evening light around one of the many campgrounds we would stay at. This resulted in hundreds of gigabites of raw image sequences by the time we finished the 9000km journey. I edited this film with imagery shot during the project and cut in a few shots I captured over the years to help tie some of the scenes together. Architecture Profiles: “Building Transformative Narratives – David Adjaye”

“Undoubtedly, the most significant project that’s really propelled and changed my career is the National Museum of African American History and Culture on the Mall. I was a young architect, but I was given the task to design and deliver this project. That was my role and my office’s role in the project. I didn’t do many things between that time, because it consumed so much but I learned so much. And when it opened with Barack Obama, before he left the White House, it kind of felt like something had been achieved. It was a kind of euphoric moment for me”

This is the Life Story of Sir David Adjaye OBE RA

Adjaye Associates was established in June 2000 by founder and principal architect, Sir David Adjaye OBE. Receiving ever-increasing worldwide attention, the practice has studios in London, New York and Accra and completed work in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Two of the practice’s largest commissions to date are the design of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington D.C. and the Moscow School of Management (SKOLKOVO). Further projects range in scale from private houses, exhibitions, and temporary pavilions to major arts centres, civic buildings, and masterplans. Renowned for an eclectic material and colour palette and a capacity to offer a rich civic experience, the buildings differ in form and style, yet are unified by their ability to generate new typologies and to reference a wide cultural discourse.
