Scenic Drives: Canton Of Bern In Switzerland (4K)

A beautiful autumn day that we spent on a wonderful route in the Swiss Alps. A road where you meet the wonderful landscape of the Alps and at the end of which you are greeted by a beautiful restaurant called Pochtenfall. The route was: Spiez – Aeschi bei Spiez – Aeschiried – Pochtenfall.

The canton of Bern or Berne is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of ten districts and its capital city is Bern which is also the federal city of Switzerland. The bear is the heraldic symbol of the canton, displayed on a red-yellow background. 

Walks: Ville Haute In Luxembourg City (4K)

Luxembourg’s old town, Ville Haute centers on Place Guillaume II, a medieval square with al fresco cafes and smart brasseries. Mainstream stores and chic boutiques line nearby streets. Renaissance and Baroque elements combine in the 1600s Cathédrale Notre-Dame, while Palais Grand-Ducal has an ornate facade and slender turrets. The Musée National d’Histoire et d’Art shows a large collection of fine and decorative art.

African Views: A Close Look At Somaliland (DW)

Africa’s Somaliland is a self-governing autonomous region with its own currency, military and passport. But it is not recognized as a sovereign state. Somaliland broke away and declared independence from Somalia 30 years ago. It’s seen as a stable region, especially when compared to the rest of Somalia, where there is a big terrorism threat. But most of Somaliland’s 4.5 million people live in poverty. DW takes a closer look at Somaliland and its society.

Island Views: Zanzibar (4K)

Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. On its main island, Unguja, familiarly called Zanzibar, is Stone Town, a historic trade center with Swahili and Islamic influences. Its winding lanes present minarets, carved doorways and 19th-century landmarks such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace. The northern villages Nungwi and Kendwa have wide beaches lined with hotels.

The Painted Desert is a United States desert of badlands in the Four Corners area, running from near the east end of Grand Canyon National Park and southeast into Petrified Forest National Park. It is most easily accessed from the north portion of Petrified Forest National Park.

In the picturesque walled city of Arezzo, a medieval ritual is conducted twice each year in which locals don the colors and armor of knights to engage in a jousting competition. Correspondent Seth Doane takes in the pageantry of the Giostra del Saracino, where longstanding family rivalries can play out on horseback.
