Set sail over Coniston Water with the National Trust in this behind-the-scenes video of Steam Yacht Gondola, one of the only steam-running gondolas remaining in the Lake District. In this video, find out about the work that goes into every voyage, and hear the stories of the gondola from the boat’s Manager, Julian. He’ll show you how he stokes the fire and what he and the team do to prepare the gondola before setting out for a journey. You’ll also hear about the traditional methods that are still used to this day to dock the boat. The history of Steam Yacht Gondola reaches as far back as the Victorian period, and to step aboard is to step back in time. Sir James Ramsden, Director of the Furness Railway Company, saw an opportunity to bring a pleasure cruise to Coniston Water after being inspired by a trip to Venice in 1850. Out of his vision, Steam Yacht Gondola was borne.

Views: Classic Wooden Motor Boats At Villa d’Este, Lake Como, Italy
The Grand Hotel Villa d’Este hosted what was arguably the world’s most elegant gathering of classic wooden boats and yachts. And what could say ‘La Dolce Vita’ better than an armada of Rivas dancing on the waves of Lake Como?

Members of the rather secretive Associazione Scafi Epoca – an association and historical register of vintage and classic hulls – watered their classic wooden boats on Lake Como for the Villa d’Este Vintage Yachting.
Sipping on an Aperol on the Grand Hotel’s waterfront terrasse buzzing with waiters in splendid white uniforms, the sonorous chugging of the wooden boats filling the air, one immediately felt thrown back to the 1950s and 1960s, when the international hautevolee spent their summers yachting and water-skiing on the lakes of Northern Italy. Had H.S.H. Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco or Count Giovanni Agusta moored their Aquarama on the Villa’s floating pool on the lake, it wouldn’t have come as a surprise.

Views: Sailing On Lake Constance In Germany
A trip around Lake Constance: Explore the southern-German region with Check-in presenter Lukas Stege. He tries his hand at sailing and – back on dry land – visits Constance, Meersburg, and Überlingen.
Lake Constance (known as Bodensee in German) is a 63km-long central European lake that borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Fed by the Rhine River, it’s composed of 2 connected parts, the Untersee (lower lake) and the larger Obersee (upper lake). Ringed by resort towns, it’s a summer destination for sailing, windsurfing and swimming. The Bodensee-Radweg cycle path encircles the entire lake in about 260km.
Gigayachts: ‘Galleon’ – Steve Kozloff Designs
The GOLIATH Series explorer yachts are purpose-built steel hulled motor yachts with ice class hulls (PC2). Their steel hulls have the strength to endure the intensity of driving through moderate multi-year ice conditions. Undoubtedly, making this series of explorer yachts most formidable.
On the upper aft deck is a lounging area, full luxury bar, and a 74’ by 32’ pool. One level below the bridge deck is a 44.5′ by 35’ indoor pool. Both pools include the Kozloff invention of an automated hard cover that becomes a gazebo when the pools are in use. When not in use the hard covers seal the pool; therefore, no need to drain in rough conditions. On the upper forward decks are two lazy river pools connected by a waterslide.
Galleon features an indoor sports center with a full-sized basketball court, tennis court, and four handball courts. The many open common areas in the hull can include amenities such as a park, café, pub,
restaurant, and more.
Inside Views: ‘USS Gerald R. Ford’ Aircraft Carrier
As the world’s largest aircraft carrier in the world’s dominant navy, the USS Gerald R. Ford is gargantuan. The aircraft carrier took eight years to build, several more years to test, and is large enough to tower over the biggest building in plenty of large towns. Named for the 38th President of the United States, the Gerald Ford is the lead ship of the US navy. It clocks in at over 1,000ft or nearly three American football fields in length, and nearly 250 feet high. Contained in that massive space, the aircraft carrier also has a whopping 25 decks. The massive ship, which can house over 4,500 people and carry over 75 aircraft, is powered by two nuclear reactors, and fully-loaded, weighs in at over 100,000 tonnes. That makes her the largest warship ever constructed. The total building cost is estimated at over 17 billion dollars, including 5 billion spent on research alone. After several delays it came in at 22% over the intended budget.

Future Of Sailing: The ‘Carbon Fibre Trimaran – Hanstaiger X1’ (Video)
The X1 is an exceptionally well designed trimaran, with all the hydrodynamic advantageous that brings. The sailboat version can reach speeds of 20 knots. The powerboat version can achieve speeds of 30 knots thanks to more powerful engines.
The interior of the X1 is not designed to feel you are in a boat; its designed to feel like you are in luxury home. Natural light fills all areas of boat, thanks to the glass roof structure and oversized lateral windows. There are no narrow corridors or maze like internal structures; the layout is designed to feel open and easy to move around in. The toilets are proper sized, with all the space, functionality and finishings you would come to expect from a 5 star hotel.
