Hobbies: Former “Vanity Fair” Editor Graydon Carter With His 1951 Chevrolet Woodie (WSJ)

From a Wall Street Journal article by A.J. Baime:

There was something wonderful and free-wheeling about the experience. There was no air-conditioning, no seat belts, and theride was rickety, so my kids would bounce around in back. The car was built beforeinterstate highways, and it doesn’t go over40 mph. It was also among the firstgeneration of cars with an automatic transmission. The previous owner kept aninstruction manual tucked into the visor onhow to use the automatic, which is kind of funny.

Top Campsites: Cranberry Lake Campground, NY, Features Remote Beauty Of Adirondacks

From a Newsday.com online article:

cranberry3Cranberry Lake is one of the largest remote lakes in the Adirondacks, so it is no wonder the beauty is off the charts. Civilization has barely encroached upon this pristine wilderness so campers enjoy more solitude than usually found at established campgrounds. Outdoor enthusiasts have plenty to do with dozens of trails in the Five Ponds Wilderness Area that wind through the surrounding forest, and the lake is stocked with trout for the avid fisherman. It isn’t a small campground — more than 170 sites — but the sound of rocking lake waves fills the air, creating the ultimate sound machine to help you drift off to sleep at night.

Travel Destinations: AutoCamp Yosemite Renovation Fused Great Design With Airstream Suites In Great Outdoors

From a Dwell.com online article:

Autocamp Yosemite AirstreamFrom start to finish, AutoCamp Yosemite took a surprisingly short two years to complete. That’s because they used the same dream team they worked with for their Russian River location—Anacapa Architecture and Geremia Design. Building on the desire to make the space homey and authentic, they took inspiration from the area and brought in local talent and hometown favorites every chance they got. Architect Dan Weber sourced the tents from a company based in his hometown; local designers contributed much of the site’s wall art, decor, and building fabrication; and a vast majority of the furnishings and decor were designed or sourced from the designers’ friends.

“Custom-made moon sculptures by New York–based artist Bronsen hang prominently in each Airstream.”

Boomers Homes: 55+ New Housing Demand Strong Led By Surge For Rentals

From a Housing Wire online article:

55+ Housing Rental Market“Demand for 55+ housing remains solid, as demonstrated in the surge for 55+ rental demand,” said Dietz. “Builder sentiment for the for-sale 55+ housing market also remains in positive territory, supported by low inventory of existing homes. However, it is being constrained by development costs and their impact on affordability.”

As more Baby Boomers look not just to downsize but to “rightsize” in their retirement years, the 55+ housing market is humming along nicely, showing solid activity despite the faltering state of the overall market.

According to the latest from the National Association of Home Builders, builder confidence in present sales for the 55+ market remained at 76 in the second quarter of 2019, holding steady at a record high.

Diet Studies: “Profound Benefits” Of Fasting For Weight Loss, Longevity And Chronic Disease

From a Wall Street Journal article by Andreas Michalsen:

Fasting article Wall Street Journal by Andreas Michalsen Aug 2019At the Charité University Hospital in Berlin, I’ve employed what’s called intermittent fasting, or time-restricted eating, to help patients with an array of chronic conditions. These include diabetes, high blood pressure, rheumatism and bowel diseases, as well as pain syndromes such as migraines and osteoarthritis.

Fasting is one of the biggest weight-losstrends to arise in recent years. Endorsed by A-list celebrities and the subject of a spate ofbest-selling books, it was the eighth most-Googled diet in America in 2018.

There are different ways to go about it, but Iadvise patients to omit either dinner or breakfast, so that they don’t ingest any foodfor at least 14 hours at a stretch.
