Views: The Top Television Commercials From 2022

Adweek (December 14, 2022) – These 22 Campaigns Made Creative Professionals Jealous in 2022 – From popular social ads to Super Bowl spots, these are the works that creatives loved:

Dave’s Hot Chicken: ‘Don’t Die Before You Try It
Agency: Party Land

Josh Fell, partner and CCO at Anomaly LA:

Like nearly everything coming out of the Party Land crew, this made me laugh. Not a normal laugh. A surprised laugh. An ugly laugh. The type of laugh that creeps out of the guilty part of your subconscious. A vocal acknowledgement of the fragility of existence amidst the looming specter of oblivion. A giggling acceptance of the collective unspoken—that all one can do in life is to embrace the absurdity of it all and smile. And then maybe eat some hot chicken.

Apple: ‘The Greatest
Agency: Apple’s in-house team in London

Chris Garbutt, chief creative officer and co-president, Virtue:

Apple’s “The Greatest” is the anthem for innovation addressing accessibility. Apple knows that in order to inspire its community, it has to have the courage to let the audience lead. This work does exactly that.

Ocean Spray: ‘Power Your Holidays
Agency: Orchard Creative

Paul Caiozzo, co-founder and chief creative officer, Supernatural:

One ad stood way out to me. The perfect combination of product, culture and freshness. Great, simple extensions that didn’t look to do any “heavy lifting” but rather continued the fun. Doing all of those things isn’t easy and Ocean Spray did it brilliantly.

Super Bowl Ads: Planters To Kill Off 114-Year Old “Mr. Peanut” (1916 – 2020)

From an AdWeek online article:

AdWeek logo“It’s with heavy hearts that we confirm Mr. Peanut has passed away at 104 years old,” said Samantha Hess, brand manager for Planters, in a statement. “He will be remembered as the Mr. Peanut in 1950'slegume who always brought people together for nutty adventures and a good time. We encourage fans to tune in to Mr. Peanut’s funeral during the third quarter of the Super Bowl to celebrate his life.”

In a shocking move, Planters, the Kraft-Heinz-owned snack brand, has killed off its iconic mascot in a teaser for its Big Game spot. Mr. Peanut’s untimely demise began with a Nutmobile crash, followed by falling off a cliff and ending in an explosion.

In the 30-second teaser, Mr. Peanut is driving his signature Nutmobile around a winding cliff with actors Matt Walsh (Veep) and Wesley Snipes in the front and back seat, respectively. Walsh spots an armadillo in the road, and Mr. Peanut swerves—right off the cliff.

Entertainment: “Top Ten TV Shows Of 2019” (AdWeek)

From an AdWeek online article:

Adweek LogoBut while there is more great TV than ever before, the number of top-tier programs actually declined in 2018, making the task of assembling a Top 10 TV shows list easier than usual since so few shows stood out from the pack. That changed for the better in 2019, resulting in a Top 10 lineup that features only one returning series from 2018’s list. (Also, some of last year’s best shows, like Better Call Saul and Atlanta, didn’t air new episodes in 2019.)

1. Fleabag (Amazon)

Fleabag Seaon 2

2. Succession (HBO)
