Village Walks: Cetara On The Amalfi Coast, Italy (4K)

Cetara is a cozy fishermen’s village nested along the Amalfi Coast among verdant citrus groves. The road that leads along the coast from Vietri sul Mare continues the length of the shoreline, overlooked by rugged hills and rocky seashore, past the fascinating villages of Raito and Albori, before continuing on almost straight to reach the ancient charming basin of Cetara.

Cetara’s name is derived from the Latin, Cetaria (meaning tuna-fishing nets), indicating its importance through the ages as a fishing settlement. It was under the political rule of the Republic of Amalfi for centuries. In 1551, Turkish armies raided and enslaved the Cetaresi, killing all those who did not embark with them. After this tragic episode, the survivors built a magnificent watch tower (nowadays used as private residence, but still standing and overlooking the tiny beach), while the majority escaped to Naples.

Patong is a beach resort town on the west coast of Phuket Island, facing the Andaman Sea in the southwest of Thailand. Its sandy, crescent beach is lined with cafes, restaurants and bars. The famously raucous nightlife scene features beer bars, go-go bars, nightclubs, massage parlors and cabarets that overflow into the street along neon-lit Bangla Road and in the Patong OTOP Shopping Paradise complex.

Historic Al Sabkha is a labyrinthine district around the glitzy jewelry stores of Deira Gold Souk, with stalls piled high with oud and frankincense in the neighboring Perfume Souk. The Women’s Museum – Bait Al Banat examines the role of women in the UAE, and there are rare photos of Dubai’s development since the 1960s in Dubai Municipality Museum. Along with hostels, Arabic cafes and tea shops line narrow alleys.

Tours: Venice Carnival 2022 In Piazza San Marco

Venice Carnival is one of the most famous carnival celebrations in the world. Every year 3 million people descend upon this floating city to soak up the iconic scenery, admire the extravagant costumes and masks, and be part of an electric atmosphere.

There is no other place in the world that celebrates carnival like Venice, and everyone must experience it at least once in their lifetime!

The 2022 Venice Carnival dates will run Saturday, 12th February 2022 – Tuesday 1st March 2022. 

Venice Carnival always finishes on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday which is the last allowed day when one can indulge in gluttony, excess and debauchery, before the 40 days of Lent will begin.

The final weekend of Venice Carnival is said to be the best time to attend. So, from Fat Thursday (Giovedì Grasso) until Shrove Tuesday (Martedì Grasso), is when the best events occur. It is also the busiest time to be in Venice for Carnival.

Cozumel, a mostly undeveloped Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea, is a popular cruise ship port of call famed for its scuba diving. At Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park, there’s diving spots around a section of the Mesoamerican Reef and the Museo Subacuático de Arte’s submerged sculptures. Chankanaab is an eco park surrounding a lagoon with underwater caverns, home to dolphins, manatees and sea turtles.

Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast at the head of the Oslofjord. It’s known for its green spaces and museums. Many of these are on the Bygdøy Peninsula, including the waterside Norwegian Maritime Museum and the Viking Ship Museum, with Viking ships from the 9th century. The Holmenkollbakken is a ski-jumping hill with panoramic views of the fjord. It also has a ski museum.

St. Gallen is a city south of Lake Constance (Bodensee), in northeastern Switzerland. It’s home to the Abbey of St. Gall, a monastery of various architectural styles including baroque. The complex includes a library with a rich collection of ancient books, and a twin-towered cathedral. Nearby, the Textile Museum details this important local trade. Many buildings in the old town have decorative bay windows.

Tenerife is the largest and most populous island of the Canary Islands. It is home to 43% of the total population of the archipelago. With a land area of 2,034 square kilometres and a population of 966,354 inhabitants at the end of 2020, it is also the most populous island of Spain and of Macaronesia.

Approximately five million tourists visit Tenerife each year; it is the most visited island in the archipelago. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain and the world. Teide National Park, located in the center of the island, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It includes Mount Teide, which has the highest elevation in Spain (3715 metres), and the highest among all the islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is also the third-largest volcano in the world, when measured from its base. Another geographical feature of the island, the Macizo de Anaga (massif), has been designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2015. Tenerife also has the largest number of endemic species in Europe.

Rome is often referred to as the City of Seven Hills due to its geographic location, and also as the “Eternal City”.
