Travel Views: Savannah Historic District, Georgia

Within the boundaries of the Savannah River, E. Broad Street, Forsyth park, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, you’ll find one of the top ten largest national historic landmark districts in the United States. The Savannah Historic District sits in the center of one of the South’s most important cities.

The Savannah Historic District encompasses the original town plan laid out in 1733 by Gen. James E. Oglethorpe, founder of the British colony of Georgia. Despite the passing of centuries, much of The Savannah Historic District has remained the same such as its grid-like layout and the impeccably restored homes from the 18th and 19th centuries constructed in a variety of styles like Gothic, Victorian, and Greek Revival. Divisions within the Savannah Historic District known as wards, squares and trustee lots are still intact.

Travel: Exploring The City Of Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of the most-visited cities in Europe. Before the coronavirus pandemic, overtourism was a real problem here: It was often so crowded that it was almost impossible to move around the historic Old Town, as well as around Charles Bridge, Hradcany Castle Hill, and Wenceslas Square.

What’s it like today, after the pandemic, and what ideas are there for tourism in Prague in the future? DW’s Nicole Frölich visited the Czech capital, and was surprised at what she discovered. Have you ever been to Prague?

Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is bisected by the Vltava River. Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it’s known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show. Completed in 1402, pedestrian Charles Bridge is lined with statues of Catholic saints.

Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast at the head of the Oslofjord. It’s known for its green spaces and museums. Many of these are on the Bygdøy Peninsula, including the waterside Norwegian Maritime Museum and the Viking Ship Museum, with Viking ships from the 9th century. The Holmenkollbakken is a ski-jumping hill with panoramic views of the fjord. It also has a ski museum.

Bike Tours: Hamburg In Northern Germany (4K)

Two wheels, one goal: exploring Hamburg from a cycling perspective. Rather than exploring Hamburg through a city walk, Amélie’s mission on a sunny day in Hamburg is to bike through the urban jungle as well as through the green parts of the city. Amélie starts at the Fischmarkt in the Rad Race Shop and crosses the Elbtunnel, which connects the centre of Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the Elbe.

Out of the lift of the Elbtunnel, the route continues via the Landungsbrücken to the Elbphilharmonie. From there, via the Speicherstadt to Hamburg City Hall. After the Jungfernstieg, the tour continues along the green side of Hamburg through the Old Botanical Garden and Planten un Blomen.

Via the Reeperbahn, we return to the Rad Race Shop for Amélie to enjoy a cup of coffee.

City Tours: The Canals Of Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, has more than 100 kilometers of grachten, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. The three main canals, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the Grachtengordel. Alongside the main canals are 1550 monumental buildings.

One of the most enjoyable things to do in Amsterdam is wander along the beautiful canals, which are lined with picturesque, historic buildings and have an endless variety of boats of all shapes, size, variety and function going by.

The city is a cultural center in the North of Pakistan with over 11 million inhabitants. It’s vibrant, bustling and full of historic buildings and traditions. Eva meets unique characters from Lahore who take her on a tour through their city. The ancient Wazir Khan Mosque is a must-see, and don’t miss a spontaneous visit to a local barber shop 😉. I spend the day exploring Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, an autonomous region of Iraq. I wander the Qaysari Bazaar, sampling some of the city’s best kebab, washing it down with some tea in an authentic old cafe. I head inside Erbil’s famous citadel, before finishing up with a stroll down the buzzing Iskan Street.

Erbil, also called Hawler and known in ancient history as Arbela, is the capital and most populated city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It has around 1.5 million inhabitants, while Erbil Governorate has 2,932,800 inhabitants as of 2020.

Bruges, the capital of West Flanders in northwest Belgium, is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. Its port, Zeebrugge, is an important center for fishing and European trade. In the city center’s Burg square, the 14th-century Stadhuis (City Hall) has an ornate carved ceiling. Nearby, Markt square features a 13th-century belfry with a 47-bell carillon and 83m tower with panoramic views.
