Top New Timelapse Videos: “Night Light” Produced By Arthur Cauty (2020)

Filmed and Edited by: Arthur Cauty

An exercise in light painting and parallax displacement to apply a 3D (or 2.5D) element to a series of still photographs captured after nightfall.

This film is comprised entirely of still images. All motion achieved in post production. The only time lapse shots are the star trails. All other shots are typically comprised of between 3 and 5 exposures of the same subject, but with different lighting in each, then blended together or transitioned between to give the effect of seamless motion.

The COVID19 pandemic forced me to put a number of projects on hold. Being unable to shoot anything new I took the opportunity to look back through my astrophotography and nightscape work from the past couple of years. I put this film together as a reminder of what exists outside my four walls and so others can enjoy the wonders of the night sky from their solitary confines.

Photographed at the following locations:
Arches National Park, Utah
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah
Joshua Tree National Park, California
Llanthony Priory, Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales
Dunraven Bay, South Wales
Dartmoor National Park, England

Top New Travel Videos: “Balazuc – Village Of Character” In France

Filmed and Edited by: Cineliv

Perched on a cliff overlooking the River Ardèche, the superb village of Balazuc has restored its heritage remarkably well. A former stronghold of the lords of Balazuc, this little village, with its rich medieval past, is today listed amongst the most beautiful villages in France.

A charming labyrinth of tortuous streets interspersed by arched passages, arcades and stairways, to be enjoyed on foot, during a delightful stroll. (English subtitles)

New Aerial Travel Videos: “Iceland – The Greatness Within | Highlands” (2020)

Filmed and Edited by: Jurgis Kreilis / FilmDay

Two years ago I went to Iceland the first time. Shortly after return I gave myself a promise to visit this beautiful county and it’s nature once again. I even made a bucket list of things I still want to exprience there.

I kept the promise and returned to Iceland once again last year in September. I joined the expedition to Icelandic highlands for unseen natural landscapes, ever changing weather, first dance with northerthern lights and the overall greatness within. This was an amazing experience that crossed out few things from my bucket list. But I’m not done with Iceland. There are still few things and seasons I’d love to experience there…

Travel Destination Videos: “Union Glacier Camp” In West Antarctica (2020)

Filmed and Edited by: Temujin Doran (StudioCanoe)

Union Glacier camp is a seasonal, remote field camp in West Antarctica. It is one of my favourite places in the world, due largely to the wonderful people that run and pass through the camp.

I have been lucky enough to work there several times, and this short film is a guide to the camp and some of the people who work there.

For more information about the camp please visit – antarctic-logistics.com/camp/union-glacier-camp/

ANTARCTIC PIONEERS

In 1985, there was no practical way for a private traveler to reach Antarctica except by ship. The challenges of flying into the Antarctic were formidable. Distances from nearby continents were great, weather problems daunting, and fuel unavailable for private individuals.

Despite all the odds, in 1985, two Canadian mountaineers – Pat Morrow and Martyn Williams – joined with seasoned Antarctic pilot Giles Kershaw from Britain to plan and organize an ascent of Mount Vinson for a group intent on being the first to scale the “Seven Summits”, the highest peak on all seven continents. Having conquered the summit, the trio realized that the strategy they had developed to reach their goal could be used to assist others and Adventure Network International, the predecessor to ALE, was born.

More than 30 years later, ALE is the most experienced and capable private operator in the interior of Antarctica. We have carried thousands of passengers, using large aircraft operating out of Punta Arenas, Chile, to ice runways at Patriot Hills and Union Glacier. We have supported virtually every expedition that has crossed the continent on foot, by vehicle or by aircraft. We have supported major science projects and overland traverses. We continue to improve our services and logistic capability. We offer a range of Experiences that showcase the best of the icy continent and cater to every type of adventurer. And we continue our mission to set the highest possible environmental standards and to use best practices.

Travel Film: “Amsterdown” – A Portrait Of Amsterdam During Quarantine By Quentin van den Bossche

Produced/Directed/Shot/Edited by: Quentin van den Bossche

“Amsterdown” a portrait of Amsterdam during the global pandemic. As we explore life in a day of quarantined city, we journey through the usually energetic scene interrupted during an unprecedented time. Punctuated by a gentle bursts of local human activity.

The film was a cathartic exercise for a filmmaker left with very little purpose. Thematically, it’s a visual exploration of space and distance as set by our new way of life. Observing and examining what I could with what I had. Highlighting the contrast found in this emptiness, without comment.

The oral cover of Claire de Lune by the Swingle Singers, which I was attracted to very early on, was a piece that gave the edit a touch of humanity by filling the void left behind by people. We now live in a world that has been set on pause, as opposed to completely switched off – and there’s hope in that. Stay safe and healthy out there.
