The village’s inhabitants, some 1,000 people, abide by an ancient philosophy and its traditions: They protect the surrounding rainforest, cars are not allowed in the village, and littering is also forbidden. Over the past years, sustainable tourism has grown in Penglipuran, strengthening the local economy.
