California Views: Joshua Tree National Park (4K)

Joshua Tree National Park is an American national park in southeastern California, east of Los Angeles and near Palm Springs. It is named after the Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia) native to the Mojave Desert.

Originally declared a national monument in 1936, Joshua Tree was redesignated as a national park in 1994 when the U.S. Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act. Encompassing a total of 790,636 acres (1,235.4 sq mi; 3,199.6 km2) – slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island – the park includes 429,690 acres (671.4 sq mi; 1,738.9 km2) of designated wilderness.

Straddling San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the park includes parts of two deserts, each an ecosystem whose characteristics are determined primarily by elevation: the higher Mojave Desert and the lower Colorado Desert. The Little San Bernardino Mountains traverse the southwest edge of the park.SHOW LESS

Top New Timelapse Videos: “Night Light” Produced By Arthur Cauty (2020)

Filmed and Edited by: Arthur Cauty

An exercise in light painting and parallax displacement to apply a 3D (or 2.5D) element to a series of still photographs captured after nightfall.

This film is comprised entirely of still images. All motion achieved in post production. The only time lapse shots are the star trails. All other shots are typically comprised of between 3 and 5 exposures of the same subject, but with different lighting in each, then blended together or transitioned between to give the effect of seamless motion.

The COVID19 pandemic forced me to put a number of projects on hold. Being unable to shoot anything new I took the opportunity to look back through my astrophotography and nightscape work from the past couple of years. I put this film together as a reminder of what exists outside my four walls and so others can enjoy the wonders of the night sky from their solitary confines.

Photographed at the following locations:
Arches National Park, Utah
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah
Joshua Tree National Park, California
Llanthony Priory, Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales
Dunraven Bay, South Wales
Dartmoor National Park, England

Top RV Campsites: Jumbo Rocks Campground At Joshua Tree National Park Features Oversized Volcanic Boulders

From Fodor’s online:

Jumbo Rocks CampgroundThe accurately named Jumbo Rocks Campground is woven among the stacked and strewn oversized volcanic boulders unique to Joshua Tree National Park. Several hiking trails begin at Jumbo Rocks, a 126-campsite facility with vault toilets. During Joshua Tree’s peak season, October through May, hikers and rock-scramblers who reserve the campground well in advance are rewarded with views of the boulders whose colors shift throughout the day, from the morning sunrise to the fire’s glow. In the hot, dry summers, Jumbo Rocks is first-come, first-served.
