Travel Tour: Heidelberg In Southwestern Germany

DW Travel (September 3, 2023) – A tour of Heidelberg, located on the Neckar River in southwestern Germany. It’s known for venerable Heidelberg University, founded in the 14th century, the Gothic Heiliggeistkirche church towers over the cafe-lined Marktplatz, its Altstadt (Old Town) and the red-sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle, a noted example of Renaissance architecture, stand on Königstuhl hill.

Walking Tour: Stuttgart – Southwest Germany (4K)

Stuttgart, capital of southwest Germany’s Baden-Württemberg state, is known as a manufacturing hub. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have headquarters and museums here. The city is filled with greenspaces, which wrap around its center. Popular parks include the Schlossgarten, Rosensteinpark and Killesbergpark. Wilhelma, one of the largest zoos and botanical gardens in Europe, is just northeast of Rosenstein Castle.

Mannheim is a city in southwest Germany, on the Rhine and Neckar rivers. The baroque 18th-century Mannheim Palace houses historical exhibits, plus the University of Mannheim. In the grid-like center, called the Quadrate, Marktplatz Square features a baroque fountain with statues. Planken shopping street leads southeast to the Romanesque Water Tower, in the art nouveau gardens of Friedrichsplatz.

Walks: ‘Tübingen’ In Southwest Germany

Tübingen is a city in southwest Germany and home to one of Europe’s oldest universities. In the old town, Stiftskirche St. Georg is a late-Gothic church with stained-glass windows and city views from its tower. The ornately painted 15th-century City Hall is topped with a functioning astronomical clock. Hilltop Hohentübingen Castle is home to the Museum of Ancient Cultures, with Greek, Roman and Egyptian artifacts. 

Walking Tour: ‘Meersburg’ On Lake Contance In Southwestern Germany

Meersburg is a town in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg. On the shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee), it’s surrounded by vineyards. Medieval Meersburg Castle houses the Fortress Museum, showing a medieval living room and castle dungeon. Nearby, New Palace has baroque architecture and frescoes. Above town, the Droste Museum displays poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff’s personal writings and belongings.

Walking Tours: ‘Baden-Baden’ In Southwestern Germany (Video – 2020)

Baden-Baden is a wealthy spa town at the edge of the Black Forest in Baden Württemberg. The town is located south west Germany, near the border with France – around 1 hour by car from Strasbourg.

Baden-Baden is famous for thermal bath and the Kurhaus complex (built in 1824) with the Spielbank (casino) where also Dostoevsky gambled during his 5 week stay which makes it a popular destination also for Russian tourists. We see the centre and the spa area on this walk among some shopping streets as well as the main sights like the Spielbank and Trinkhalle on this short walk.
