Travel & Leisure: ‘Great Sand Dunes National Park – Colorado’ (4K Video)

Great Sand Dunes National Park, located in South-Central Colorado is a remarkable place for massive sand dunes – join me as I climb to the highest peak and sled my way back down. Visited October 5, 2020.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is in southern Colorado. It’s known for huge dunes like the towering Star Dune, and for the seasonal Medano Creek and beach created at the base of the dunes. The backcountry Medano Pass Primitive Road winds through a canyon toward the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Trails lead to forests, wetlands and alpine lakes like Medano Lake, which is home to trout and tundra wildlife.

Kiruna is a town in the far north of Swedish Lapland. It’s known for the huge LKAB iron ore mine and its underground visitors center with an exhibit on mining. Hjalmar Lundbohmsgården, the 19th-century former home of LKAB’s first managing director, is now a museum with a courtyard photography exhibit. Kiruna Church is notable for its bell tower and resemblance to the traditional huts of the indigenous Sámi people.

Winter Views: ‘Achterhoek – The Netherlands’ (Video)

The Achterhoek is a cultural region in the eastern Netherlands. Its name is geographically appropriate because the area lies in the easternmost part of Gelderland, and therefore in the east of the Netherlands, protruding into Germany. The Achterhoek lies at the East of the IJssel and Oude IJssel rivers.

From the 7th to the 14th of February 2021 we had severe winter weather with 30 cm snowfall on the 7th and the whole week temperatures down to 15 degrees Celsius below zero. Of course there are many countries where these circumstances are normal in winter, but in The Netherlands it only happens once in 10 years or so.

After a couple of days ponds and brooks were frozen, so people went out for skating the whole weekend. Young children had this opportunity for the first time of their life. In this video recordings of the country side in the east of The Netherlands plus an impression of skating fun in Bredevoort.

Winter Walk: ‘Södermalm Island’ – Sweden (Video)

Beautiful day in this Södermalm park. Locals enjoy the snow among picturesque cottages below grand Sofia Church.

Sprawling Södermalm island has a relaxed, creative vibe, with artsy shops, eclectic cafes and the stylish Fotografiska, a contemporary photo gallery in a former industrial building by the water. Classic Swedish restaurants and hip breakfast spots surround leafy Nytorget Square and dot the bustling Hornstull area. In summer, the small beaches in Tantolunden park are popular for swimming and picnics.
