Timelapse Travel Views: ‘Magnificent Japan’ (4K)

“雄大 (YUDAI)” means magnificent in Japanese. The film is a Timelapse and Hyperlapse depiction of magnificent Japan.

Japan, island country lying off the east coast of Asia. It consists of a great string of islands in a northeast-southwest arc that stretches for approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 km) through the western North Pacific Ocean. Nearly the entire land area is taken up by the country’s four main islands; from north to south these are  Hokkaido  (Hokkaidō),  Honshu  (Honshū),  Shikoku, and Kyushu (Kyūshū). Honshu is the largest of the four, followed in size by Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku. In addition, there are numerous smaller islands, the major groups of which are the Ryukyu (Nansei) Islands (including the island of Okinawa) to the south and west of Kyushu and the IzuBonin (Ogasawara), and  Volcano  (Kazan) islands to the south and east of central Honshu. The national capital, Tokyo (Tōkyō), in east-central Honshu, is one of the world’s most populous cities.

Timelapse Travel: ‘Nippon 12k’ – Discovering Japan

This is a timelapse film that depicts various parts of Japan in 12K (11520×6480 resolution). In order to achieve 12K resolution, we used various shooting methods, new workflows, and a lot of trial and error, and it took a long time to produce the film.

But even more than that, the COVID-19 made timelapse photography extremely difficult. 8K is the highest resolution, but the so-called “oversampling effect” made I feel that 12K images can be expressed in higher resolution. Although 12K is not yet an official standard, we will continue to work on further visualization as a new visual expression.

Discover Japan Series 3nd: This is an 8K Timelapse and Hyperlapse video that I shot in Japan for about two years. Japan has experienced many earthquakes, disasters, and wars. And we have overcome the challenges each time. And now I’m being influenced by COVID-19. Japan is moving toward a new era. I expressed this feeling as an 8K image.
